Review on BoYata Sit-Stand Computer Laptop Stand Riser, Adjustable Height 5.4"-17.7" For Sitting & Standing Desk, Fits MacBook And All 15" Laptops by Kenny Loeslein

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Well built stand for both desk and counter heights

I do not prefer to have a full on sit/stand desk so I was looking for a laptop stand that will allow me to stand occasionally, and not only at my desk. I ordered this BoYata stand as it appeared to fit my needs. I have a BoYata iPad stand that is really great and use all the time so I expected great things from this BoYata laptop stand, and it does not disappoint! The stand comes packed in a compact box and requires putting together. While there are only four screws to set up it is important to orient the base such that the arm stalk is towards the rear of the base. When built the stand weighs in just under 5 lbs.The hinges on each end of the arm are very tight so it takes some effort to raise the laptop platform to the desired height. But it is also this high friction that keeps the platform in place. This is similar to how other stands work as well. Over time, I suppose there is a chance the hinges could become loose. The hinges have caps that may be removable for tightening but using a knife and screwdriver I was not able to pry one off and did not want to try too hard and mess up the finish at this point.I have taken pictures of my 2019 MacBook Pro (MBP) on the stand. Here are some height references:* At its lowest height, my MBP is elevated approx. 5 1/2 inches.* With the riser in its lowest position, the maximum stable height has my MBP elevated approx. 12 inches.* With the riser raised all the way up, the maximum stable height is approx. 15 inches.* The riser can raise the laptop platform 2.75 inches. There is a bolt that helps keep the riser in place. Please make note of the instructions where it describes the optimum angle for the platform. At other angles there is a chance the platform and arm will start to drop when pressure is put onto the laptop. At optimal settings, my laptop won’t move and I can type without worrying about it. That said, I don’t recommend leaning on the stand! The usable elevation from 5 1/2 inches to 15 inches allows me to use this laptop stand at my desk, at the dining table, at the kitchen counter and on the floor. It is also usable with a 10+ inches iPad, and because an iPad weighs much less than my MBP the stand can be used at more angles and not sag from the weight. The body of my MBP is not very thick. When it rests on the platform, the two fingers – for lack of a better word – that keep my laptop from sliding off the stand do stick above the laptop. Depending on your hand positions when you type you may feel them touch your palm. These fingers and the surface of the platform have padding such that my MBP doesn’t come into contact with the metal.Overall I really like this laptop stand. While I may not use it every day it will come in handy when I need it. BoYata has another winner on its hands.

Cons
  • The stand may not be suitable for people who need to use external monitors or peripherals as there may not be enough space
