These lights are absolutely beautiful in either of the steady or flashing modes. You lose 1/2 star because the modes changing or blinking are too hard. Single mode has different flash speeds and/or color changes. The change would be great if it was a constant (preferably slower) decay, but it ends up accelerating MUCH faster and ending like lightning. You also lose 1/2 star because there is no standard plug at the end. Line. It has a proprietary round connector that lets you plug in those same strands, but when it comes to a backlit treetop, you're out of luck. We had to run an extension all the way to the top of our tree, which looks a bit ridiculous. In short, if you don't have a lighted treetop or just want solid light, you'll be hard pressed to find a better set! Very handy remote control with built-in timer.
