Nobody makes good iron anymore!

This is the fourth Rowenta iron I've bought in a decade. Each model developed a serious defect within one to four years. The two earliest and most expensive models just stopped warming up. All four irons were leaking within a short time. Having put my clothes on the ironing board intermittently since purchase, water is now pouring out of the bottom of this DW8080 Rowenta that I now own. Authorized Rowenta service personnel acknowledged that many Rowenta models used "poor seals" and a few years ago expressed dissatisfaction with this fact, but stated that they could not carry out repairs. When I recently dropped off two non-working Rowentas at our local recycling facility, some of us discussed how sad it is that a well-made, reliable iron is no longer sold in America. If you look at reviews on the Internet today, it seems that after a short period of use, every model of almost all manufacturers begins to leak or other serious defects appear. In addition, I have come across thousands of complaints filed on Rowenta's iron-only consumer website. The company had many years to reverse engineer its products. When buying this latest model, I made sure to find a model "Made in Germany" and not in China or Mexico. It made no difference. I don't know where to turn now. Tonight I'm trying to 'spray' our cotton clothes with a spray bottle like my mother used to do in the 1940's and 50's since steam ironing is no longer possible with my Rowenta. Unfortunately, this is another example of planned obsolescence of national and international manufacturers who simply don't care!
