Poor quality product or just bad luck?

This is garbage. This is the second to have fallen apart at the 1/4 20 threaded end. I hesitate to say "broken off" because in both cases they just seemed to snap cleanly when tightened. NO. will not be drawn. While I love other Manfrotto products and find them durable and reliable, I haven't had any luck with these particular spikes. This broke the first time I used it. Maybe it's me or just bad luck, but I'm done with brass threads.
