I definitely don't "need" this extension, but it definitely changes the look of my system a lot. My standard USB 3.0 cable was long enough. , but due to the orientation of the header, it ended up looping and taking up way more space in the body than I'd like. With this addition, I was now able to hide the excess cable behind the motherboard tray and have some serious cable management on the back of the case.
