Great product! If you're looking for a dedicated audio recording solution and don't want to lug around a whole bunch of other electronics, this is your answer. Since you already have an iPhone in your pocket, just put this guy on and you're done! The free Zoom Audio Recorder app works well and lets you choose different speeds of audio to save to, and the sound quality and stereo image is just amazing. I prefer the X/Y sound over the Mid/Side sound style. For my application, realism is everything, so the results from this device correspond very closely to what your ear hears. On the contrary, the picture from M/S sounds strange and not at all realistic. (I assume this is because the side mic signal is subtracted from the center to get a pseudo-stereo result.) Two things to note: 1. Put your phone in AIRPLANE MODE before recording! I returned my original unit thinking I had a bad one because it would record glitches from time to time and the second unit did the same. I later discovered that the WiFi antenna and/or cellular signal are picked up by the (very sensitive!) microphones that are so close to the phone's internal antenna. In flight mode, the sound is clear and perfect!2. The microphone is only held by the Lightning connector. While I don't have any audio issues, I'm a little worried about what would happen if it were dropped or bumped. A dedicated recorder has the microphone physically attached to the recorder and they also have a cage around the microphones to protect them.3. These guys are sensitive! Like any other high-quality recorder, they record noise when you hold your phone in your hand. I highly recommend buying a tripod adapter if you are looking for perfect shots in the field. The only reason I didn't give this device 5 stars is an issue with strange noises when Wi-Fi or cell phone antenna is on. It's okay if you find out, but I'm happy to give 5-star ratings for perfect products with no surprises. You will be very happy with your purchase!
