Review on πŸ‡ Multi-Functional Small Animal Playpens: Guinea Pig, Hamster, Rabbit, and More, Perfect for Indoor Use by Brandi Patel

Great idea but some features are missing

I bought this for my 2 guinea pigs and it works very well when they need some time outside the cage. It's big enough for both of them to walk easily. I have a zippered top that does a great job of keeping my other animals from jumping, but it hurts a bit when I try to unzip it. There is no zip retainer and the zip itself is very flimsy and I already have some sort of compartment on one end. If the zipper breaks, I can't use it. I wish there was velcro at the top or something to wrap the zipper around and slide the animals in and out. It just falls into the area of the cage where it's likely to be torn apart. The mesh itself on the sides can tear very easily if you're not careful, and I'm a little afraid of guinea pig claws snagging on it or cats scratching the outside. Another problem with the top is that the hole is right in the middle of the handle. This complicates things when you just want to turn it over on the street or in the garbage can to remove all the animal excrement. It would be easier to do this than having to kneel and bend down to clean the inside every time. The fabric is light and I liked that it came in a small pouch. I had no problem chewing my animals, but I agree with other comments that this stuff will definitely chew up quickly. Unfortunately, what I was most disappointed with was the "waterproof" claim, it's not. I clean the pen every time there are guinea pigs in it because the urine soaks right into the fabric, although some of the urine stays on the surface and I can just soak it up with a paper towel. I would say this material is more like a waterproof jacket where the first raindrops bead up but then you get wet. This product is easy to clean, I can just toss it outside, hose it down and let it air dry (although you're aware of the round hole at the top, it's hard to get dirt or big chunks of anything out). It's easy to carry, I can carry it from one room to another. For the most part it was good enough for what I bought it for, but I'm concerned about how long it will actually last. I'd love to see more improvements to indoor and outdoor small animal enclosures. Update November 2020 - The top zip came loose as I suspected and a guinea pig ended up biting off a piece of mesh on the side, creating a hole that soon widened. For me that's the last 2 full months, next time I'll look for something more durable.

Cons
  • Requires an outlet
