Works pretty well. in Audio & Video Accessories

I ordered this cable to connect my PlayStation 2 to my new Vizio 4K TV. As many of you know, trying to connect old gaming systems to new TVs can be a daunting task for a variety of reasons. This converter isn't a boost converter - it's really an A/D converter that combines the PS2's analog RCA component video outputs and RCA audio outputs into a single HDMI connection. That's good because it supports 4:3 PS2 on your TV - nothing is artificially stretched. However, I couldn't get any audio through the left/right RCA audio outputs from the PS2 to my TV. I'm a professional audiovisual pro by trade, so I'm pretty good at stuff like that, but I couldn't get the sound on the TV no matter what. I ended up sending this converter back thinking maybe there was something wrong with it. But the second set had the same problem. To be fair, it has more to do with my Vizio TV than the converter. I ended up using the PS2's optical audio output and sending it directly to my audio receiver. Therefore, I generally do not use the RCA audio jacks of this converter. Overall I'm very happy at the moment as using the PS2's optical audio out is better than the RCA audio out anyway. And the image quality that comes out of this converter is pretty good from what I've seen so far. Of course it depends on how your TV handles and upscales a 480i or 480p signal, and Vizio TVs don't handle this very well, but I'm very impressed so far. Obviously, you need to keep your expectations under control. Your TV won't magically make an old 480i signal look like 4K or even 1080p High Definition, but it's a good option. Since it's a cheap device, I have a PS2 and hooked up this device to its own power supply. Stripes so I only turn them on when I'm going to be using the PS2. I guess I wouldn't want this unit running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week as it will likely wear out a lot quicker. Considering the cost, I would recommend trying this device.

Pros
  • Easy to install
Cons
  • Really don't like it, everything is fine
