Review on Efficient Non Dimmable TCP Yellow Equivalent: The Ultimate Lighting Solution by Tyrone Carter

Attracts moths. Tested & compared

I'm a fan of LED lighting and swap lamps and bulbs for LEDs whenever I get a chance; When practical, ie on my patio, I have two "porches" within 10 feet of each other. I bought two of these to replace my current amber CFL (compact fluorescent) fluorescent lights. As a test, I replaced a CFL with one of those new "yellow bug bulbs equivalent to TCP 5W" and left the CFL in a different holder. As soon as it got dark outside, I turned them off and went outside about an hour later to check (it's summer here in the Midwest and we have enough flying insects in the evenings for the light to attract). To my great dismay, the LED lamp was moth infested, while the CFL showed no sign of attracting flying insects. I don't claim to be an expert on anything and no doubt some LED advocates will challenge me. All I can say is that I'm all for LED lighting if it works. I tested this yellow lightbulb against a yellow CFL in real life. The LED attracted moths, but the CFL did not. I wanted this comparison to be positive for the LED, but it didn't. I intend to buy the amber CFL as a backup if I need it and return the second amber LED still packaged.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • There are more interesting options.
