As a freelance journalist and photographer, I combine routine work with texts and complex graphics. I need screen real estate for my research and writing, but my photography and graphic design work isn't enough to justify using two top-notch monitors. When my overloaded pair of Dell monitors started flickering, I decided that a pair of these 24-inch frameless Philips monitors would be a great value upgrade. They're bright, with deep blacks (and no dead pixels) and good full sRGB color reproduction. Of course, if you're creating color-critical graphics for print or web, you'll need to calibrate them.) Be careful: a slight but noticeable drop in brightness along the vertical edges means there's a visible gray "valley". where the two monitors touch, like on the spine of a book. The user interface is one of the strangest I've come across. You may have to look up the manual to find out how to enable things. located somewhere near the ISO icon or LED indicator, but is accessed by pressing the 4-way button hidden on the back of the monitor behind the Philips logo in the bottom center. I'm used to it, there are no problems with the settings. On the other hand, if you value color matching, contrast, and brightness, you're better off using a graphics card application. Also note that despite claiming a wide viewing angle, the drop-off and color change when moving from side to side is not negligible. On the other hand, the price is right for the struggling pro or gamer on a budget.
