This magic beanie somehow protects my edges from my reckless/aggressive facial cleaning. It looks like the front band doesn't allow you to wash your forehead (laughs), but it doesn't, there's room underneath to slip your hands in and get under it - still can't reach the edges . I don't know how they did it, but they did it. I never have to worry about my hair falling out of my back, sides, ears and most importantly my hairline. It is also handy to turn inside out for deep conditioning. I don't sweat (African American hair) under a cap when showering, my "kitchen" stays dry and doesn't get too "steamy" underneath. I wish it was in more (nice) colors/patterns because I'm all for a glam/girly look, but the hat is so good I don't care how I look in it. :) My only complaint is that sometimes my ears are uncomfortable when wearing earrings. You need to choose a strip - over the ears, under or over the ears, as it is more crowded in this area. However, not using it isn't that much of a complaint. I just adjust it as needed. Hope this helps someone decide. Honestly worth a try. Also great as a gift idea.
