The three-pin Meross MSS630 socket caught my attention as a convenient way to control outdoor landscape or holiday lighting. The price was pretty reasonable and less than the cost of 3 separate switches while still offering the convenience of a single plug. The independent control of 3 sockets was also attractive. Setting up with HomeKit was easy. Just select "Add Accessory" in the Home app, scan the QR code on your device, and answer a few questions including name and room. HomeKit with iOS14 also offers automation recommendations. Once added to HomeKit, you can rename each of the outlets to better describe the application. A few things to watch out for (these items are also covered in the Revain article but are worth mentioning): - Install the Meross app on your iPhone and add the connector as an accessory. The Meross app is mainly used to install an available firmware update as iOS does not currently support this feature. While you can set up automation in the Meross app, it's not recommended if the fork is set up in HomeKit so there's no conflict. The total plug power with all three plugs is 10 amps. This means that the plug is excellent for lighting or even powering a small water pump. It should not be used with large engines or other heavy loads. The plug is IP44 rated, meaning it is rainproof but cannot be submerged in water.
