They are incredibly thin, like stockings. Not only do they let ambient light through (like real UPF 50 light-colored sports shirts), they're literally transparent. For example, you can tuck a book into a shirt and read through the fabric. They have absolutely NO UPF 50 and block less UV than even plain white 100% cotton t-shirts. The UV protection features on the $20 bill clearly glow when UV light penetrates the fabric. They block around 20% of UV rays - less than a normal cotton t-shirt. They are just too thin to protect you from the sun. I'm really disappointed with how thin the fabric is because they fit fantastic and cover the neck well. If the fabric was thick enough to protect from the sun it would definitely be 5+ stars. For the record, I'm 6'165, athletic build and these shirts fit really well - the sleeves could be a little longer but just enough to outperform 90% of the UPF long sleeve shirts I've tried. But stuff. What a disappointment, otherwise they are fantastic. They are just thin enough to provide adequate protection from the sun.
