As a mechanic with over 30 years experience I have used much better and much worse

I started out giving this product 3 stars but then I remembered how little I paid for it. As a mechanic with over 30 years of experience, I've used a lot better and a lot worse. It's a minimally professional tool, but it gets the job done adequately. The tool I had been using since the mid 1980's eventually failed and had to be replaced. I've been doing internal engine repairs very rarely lately, maybe once every few months. I chose this tool because I didn't want to invest a few hundred bucks to replace a worn one, especially as it would only be used occasionally. I have not read the instructions and this information may be included. This tool is adjustable on both sides, allowing the user to align the valve in a C-shape with the center of the compressor. This reduces the tendency of the tool to shift and move from side to side when the valve spring is depressed. The compressor must be adjusted to compress the valve spring just enough to remove or install the retainers. Further compression of the valve spring will cause problems and the tool may not lock in the depressed position as intended. Personally, I only use valve spring pushers for reassembly, but for those trying to disassemble the head with this or any other pusher, be careful not to use excessive force on the tool to try to loosen any stuck components. Sometimes it is necessary to use a hammer or some other tool. Device for breaking out stuck parts. I have a special tool to install the valve retainers, but a pocket screwdriver with a magnet should work just fine.
