Terrible valve spring compressor Avoid at all costs

Don't do it I struggled with this cheap valve spring compressor for over 4 days to return the roller tappet kit just don't make it too valuable at the time with decent valve spring compressor springs everything else was serviceable though still fit and the fairing was missing again badly avoid the valve spring compressor like the plague it's a nightmare.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Very expensive

Inexpensive tool for compressing cast valve springs. Not for 5.4 3-valves.

The valve spring compression tool was not held to the valve spring. I had to use a pry bar to hold it in place. It is cast iron and bends very quickly. How painful. Also, the timing tool will not fit the alignment pin on the engine. He also didn't set the crankshaft to 11 o'clock. Be prepared to spend MUCH more time on everything.

  • Impressive

Cheap junk for tools and equipment

Spring tensioning tool is junk save yourself lots of time and buy a brand name tool, it's worth it in the long run. The phaser holder and crank position tools worked flawlessly. I didn't use a wedge tool and crank bolt. The spring tool is cheap, after using it on 4 or 5 valves I stopped and ordered an OTC tool. Done the job in less time than it took for the first 5!

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Having problems

Pay chip, get chip. But do the work anyway.

The tools were cheap. I got what I paid for. The valve tool was a little clunky, but I just put a little extra effort into keeping it flush with the valve spring. I had to bend it several times to not break it. The crank adjustment tool will not fit in the strut, make sure you center the strut tip in the hole, that should be fine. I mean for the price what do you expect. It worked. I didn't trust the connecting rod screw. Bought for this Ford.

Compressor outdated in Engine Tools

, like all other reviews, the spring compressor is outdated. When flattened to the top of the feather, the head will appear too large to fit in most areas. Also, when assembling the tool, there is either an issue with the length of the bolt shank, or perhaps with the fact that the nut is not fully threaded. The nut does not engage the compressor threads. I had to work and now Revain doesn't have time to send me a nice over the counter tool. I just ordered a compressor locally for $170. save…

DO NOT BUY - Waste your money buy OEM

Bought the parts, didn't think much about it when I first got it. The crank tool will fit around the keyway, but the valve spring tool is useless. The dimensions of the valve spring tool do not allow the stem and cap threads to mesh, preventing the tool from compressing the spring. I know this is vague, but believe me, buy the right tools! I received a refund for my purchase so I will be extending the loan there. Ford tools are of better quality and get the job done with ease. They're more…

great kit for this type of job

This tool works great. I read some of the reviews and if you use it correctly it works. First the guy with the bent valves and timing issues it takes you to remove the spark plugs and turn them 2 turns by hand. Secondly, if you break them, think that you never overload the tool without looking for problems. Watch the video if this is your first time. The crank tool will get you where the crank should be, but first remove any cam followers so nothing gets into the valves. Watch the video if you…

Don't Buy This - Motor Tools

Valve spring compressor legs are very flimsy and brittle. One of them bent when I took it out of the box and broke when I gave it a little push to straighten it. Since it was too late to return this product I attempted to use it to R&R some of the roller followers I did along with a 2006 5.4-3v timing job. The tool doesn't even fit properly for you to engage the threads to compress the spring. And yes I know the tool is not set up correctly in the attached photo, that is the position it arrived

  • Dope 🔥
Cons
  • Low Repairability

Didn't work out of the box and was bent

This spring compressor is not designed for use with 3v heads out of the box. I ended up using a bolt with 2 nuts and a washer to be able to thread the handle onto the tool and still lower the exhaust valves far enough to remove the pushrods. Since I never completed this task again, I spent several hours trying to figure out that the tool was wrong and not my methods. The tool bent halfway, I bent it back but don't trust the tool won't bend and break next time so I can catch metal who knows…

ruined two valves and cost me a lot of money.

Very disappointed. I used a crankshaft positioning tool to align my 2007 5.4 3v engine. After leveling with this tool, the engine was not in time to sound like a cylinder was open when it was flipped. A fairly good tick is heard, and then a slight crunch before shutting down. I could never understand how I screwed up the deadlines. I thought I did everything right. After removing the heads and finding two bent valves (outlet #4 and inlet #8) I realized something seriously had gone wrong. It…
