Review on Ideal Pet Products Original Plastic by Lisa Hall

Revainrating 5 out of 5

If the puppy likes it, then I like it!

First of all, my dog loves this door! This is an internal dog and tends to roam from room to room in the house at night. Maybe he just needs to check on us from time to time. The bedrooms are air conditioned so the doors have to stay closed but if he doesn't come in he scratches the door until we recognize him. To get around this, we've started leaving the bedroom doors ajar, which isn't a good idea when trying to stem cold air or keep bloodthirsty mosquitoes out. Enter the dog door! It wasn't that difficult to install with the right tools - a drill, a saw and some patience. I used an electric handsaw (not a jigsaw). The instructions say to mount the pet door about 4 inches from the bottom of the room door, but that's just a suggestion, right? Instead I chose to install the pet door 2 inches from the bottom and once I started cutting I had my moment. the spacer itself therefore affects the stability of the door. Also, the vibrations from the saw began to separate the side panels from the inner support. Sigh. After fixing the bedroom door with nails and glue, it's time to start installing the pet door. Assembling the front and back parts and fastening them with screws is not difficult, but it turns out that the screw holes are not pre-made. threaded. Tightening these screws with a hand screwdriver is nearly impossible. I had to pre-drill the holes with a drill and screwdriver and then mount the door. Once installed, the pup immediately realized he could just poke his nose and walk through the door - no persuasion or treats - one cute little cookie. The valve is relatively quiet, but for a bedroom door it makes a loud click as there is a magnetic base that pulls out about 1 or 2mm to keep the valve closed and ensure a tight seal; not really needed for a bedroom door. I solved this noise by using a few strips of gift tape to keep the magnetic base from standing up to hit the flap. The only side benefit is that there is a tiny space that the pet door doesn't close, but that space is much smaller than the opening at the bottom of the bedroom door, so that's really a moot point. The magnetic attraction is still there, so the sash stays closed. The door is made of thick, durable, clear plastic, and sometimes the pup is quite happy just looking through the door. 4 stars for unthreaded screw holes but 5 stars for efficiency cool air, mosquitoes outside, a good night's sleep and a happy pup.
