I am a longtime PENTAX fan and professional photographer. I bought a new Nikon D3100 in 2014 but sold it again and returned to Pentax because they have a great range of excellent lenses and I prefer the quality of their cameras. I wrote the book Frame That Shot and have traveled the country photographing landscapes and wildlife. I have previously photographed PGA tournaments, NHRA drag racing and extreme sports. Back then I preferred Pentax. I bought *ist in 2006 and it still works. So why K-50? I'm one of those wildlife photographers who like the 1.5f lens as the price for LARGE GLASS is really high. I also know that the APS-C sensor puts your image in the optimal range of a full coverage lens. The K-50 has a stainless steel chassis and a polycarbonate overlay. The old *ist DSLR had a magnesium alloy body. These cameras are built to last. My old *ist looks like new and works like new. I expect the same durability with the new K-50 case. I gave my wife a kit lens (18-55mm DA-L) because I have the 18-55mm DA that came with *ist and I will be using it. I also bought a DA 50-200 ED WR lens (not the cheaper plastic mount version). My next investment will be a Pentax 70-200 f/2.8 WR and a Pentax 150-450 ED WR (or SIgma 50-500mm). ).My only wish is that Pentax still use the CRV-3 batteries that were used in the old *ist cameras. Gave me 800 shots on a fresh set of batteries. The K-50 gives me about 450 shots on a single charge. One more thing, I would like to be able to turn off the LCD by default instead of manually turning it off every time I turn on the camera. I won't be using live preview and have a high quality Canon camcorder for action shots. Pentax, change the LCD to automatically turn off after about two seconds as *is and I'll be a regular customer. for life.
