I didn't really want to buy a spiked collar as I thought it would harm my German Shepherd puppy. However, I found my 7 month old puppy difficult to walk in a harness even though I had trained him to walk well on a leash. He's totally out of control when he's excited. So I decided on a Herm Sprenger Prong collar. Now he walks perfectly next to me, like a working dog, and can no longer lunge at strangers. I've also noticed that he no longer pants on our walks because he doesn't put all his energy into pulling on the leash. Ironically, this is actually a more humane way to walk your dog as the pressure is evenly distributed around the neck rather than the front of the neck. I'm very glad I decided to try this product after reading all the positive reviews. This is a must have for a large dog like a German Shepherd!
