This pillow, like almost all other "Cool" pillows I've tried, only feels cool when you lay your head on it for the first time. Then, after a minute or less, you notice that it is getting warm and the chill is gone completely. Then you find that the cooling effect you had has been replaced by warmth that doesn't go away. This is another disappointing "cooling pad". As for firmness, if you don't like a really hard pillow, don't get it. This one is too hard. I usually like medium firm pillows. This puts pressure on the base of my neck/skull extending to my forehead. I will be returning this pillow as the claim that it cools is complete nonsense. Don't waste your money or time.
