I'm a big fan of the Canon Rebel XS. This is the first DSLR I've ever owned. I first bought one for my parents; After using it, I liked it so much that I bought one. In the end I only bought the body because I wanted to try other lenses. I have a Canon f1.8/50mm lens and a Tamron 17-55mm/f2.8 lens. Both lenses are good enough to take normal photos of any kind. The build quality is excellent. It's solidly built and seems capable of handling a lot of rough handling. Obviously use common sense; Don't drop the item! But I'm not worried about throwing it in my book bag or suitcase to take with me. The ISO is not as good as some more expensive cameras. All night photos look grainy; I need to edit noise with Adobe Lightroom. This camera has everything you need when you want to start taking photos.
