ViewSonic has long been a manufacturer of quality monitors. No longer. You don't want to read and I don't want to type, so I'll give you bullets. 1. You can turn off the light blue power indicator, but when the computer enters sleep mode, the indicator glows bright red. I hope you didn't want to sleep in the dark or anything. Or just want to stop the vampire stream.2. The brightness is set to 100% and the contrast to 70%. If these are settings that make your monitor look good, you have a crappy monitor. Luckily those settings were terrible and setting it to 50/50 gave a much better baseline. I can only assume they were concerned about people wanting to get a tan. It's VGA only. VGA still exists and is fairly easy to get on a desktop PC or Linux, but on laptops and Macs. You look at adapter layers and they don't always work well. Honestly, the only value here is that sometimes you need a narrower monitor. If you don't, there are many quality monitors that will serve you better for around the same price. If you're willing to pay a little more, you can get a nice widescreen that flips to portrait. (Both cool and useful, but kind of silly on big screens.)
