ViewSonic VA708A 1024P Monitor Correction

I have had several Viewsonic monitors over the years and have been very happy with them, but NOT THIS TIME. If I hadn't accidentally thrown away the stand that came with it (I have a wall mounted one) I would have sent this monitor back. Graphics quality is VERY AVERAGE. The curves in all fonts, regardless of the application, have a stepped character reminiscent of the old DOS RGB fonts, although not as pronounced. I spent a few days talking to Viewsonic Tech Support about this issue. To their credit the staff there were VERY helpful and genuinely went out of their way to help. We played with everything: settings, cables, drivers, etc. Nothing changed. In the end, Viewsonic said, "We have concluded that this VA series monitor is likely at the root of your experience. While all ViewSonic products are quality products, some are designed for simpler needs, while others are tuned for a slightly higher level of overall functionality. Love the fact that the screen was small and not the big 24 inch that they often have. I needed this for my desktop and the size was just perfect. I didn't want to buy anything anymore. So this works quite well for me. The color and brightness work well and it's very easy on the eyes. However, I think the price could be lower. You don't have to take that much with you for the monitor.

It's old and didn't come with the right cables. I bought it expecting to need it for a future job so I didn't open it right away and when I finally opened it because I got said job I couldn't use it! I had to go to Walmart at the last minute and buy another monitor with the right cables. I tried calling Revain about the problem but the only thing I got was that the return period had expired. At least some modern cables would be nice.

I made an excellent choice. I needed a second monitor for remote work. I didn't want to burn my pockets, I wanted quality. Should be able to connect to my laptop. Works wonderfully 👍

I have a 30" monitor and was looking for a simple secondary monitor for read-only streaming chats etc. I didn't really need anything crazy and wanted something to match my already current Viewsonic gaming monitor. My desk space is limited so I didn't want anything too big and this monitor was exactly what I was looking for at a good price.

All text looks grainy and hard to read. (See photo.) I reinstalled the drivers, changed the resolution, changed the contrast and brightness, changed the ClearType settings, there is no result. I wrote to Viewsonic and sent screenshots with the text - First they denied there was a problem, then they said to send the monitor in for repair. I don't think it's a hardware issue because the videos and photos look perfect. However, it is possible - the box arrived very damaged, so maybe something "jammed" in the monitor, which controls the display of text. It could also be some strange compatibility issue with Windows 7. Luckily I had no trouble bringing it back to Revain. It's a shame, because otherwise the monitor makes a great impression. (Update: I just bought another similar monitor from a different manufacturer - it works great.)

At first I thought I was seeing something, but the picture on the 17 inch version is pretty awful. All text displayed on the screen is fuzzy and jagged, regardless of settings. It looks like another reviewer had the same issue, but it's hard to pinpoint given the mixed reviews for three different models. Be sure to filter reviews by specific models. Eventually the video output became "wavy" (looked like 90's scrambled TV channels). I returned it for the 19 inch (square) version which has a MUCH better picture, no jags or anything.

ViewSonic has long been a manufacturer of quality monitors. No longer. You don't want to read and I don't want to type, so I'll give you bullets. 1. You can turn off the light blue power indicator, but when the computer enters sleep mode, the indicator glows bright red. I hope you didn't want to sleep in the dark or anything. Or just want to stop the vampire stream.2. The brightness is set to 100% and the contrast to 70%. If these are settings that make your monitor look good, you have a crappy monitor. Luckily those settings were terrible and setting it to 50/50 gave a much better baseline. I can only assume they were concerned about people wanting to get a tan. It's VGA only. VGA still exists and is fairly easy to get on a desktop PC or Linux, but on laptops and Macs. You look at adapter layers and they don't always work well.
