If you live with someone who doesn't take the time to change empty toilet paper rolls, this could be your answer. The only place you could hang the holder is directly across from the toilet, which means you have to walk between the holder and the toilet to get to the shower/bathtub. The previous owner never installed it and left the stand. I had several criteria for the holder - 1.) it had to be low due to the limited space so we wouldn't hit the holder with our chins; 2.) it should have as little permanent effect as possible, in case we find it too annoying and want to remove it; 3.) it had to be easy to remove and easy to put on for a role; 4.) The roller wasn't easy to brush off if someone hit it on the way to the bathroom. When I saw that this holder was pointing straight up I really hoped it would work for my purpose. This was what I envisioned in my head, something that faces up so we can just drop a roll onto it and not worry about swiping it out of the holder every time we walk past it. As it turns out I mounted it horizontally on the wall to see how it works and it works great. He is attractive, but at the same time quite unobtrusive without drawing attention to himself. I tried to knock the scroll off by hitting it with my hand and it stayed. That little button at the end does the job. It was also very easy to install. Two simple screw holes in the wall. So if we ever want to remove them, all we have to do is patch these two holes. It's also securely fastened. I tugged on the mount to make sure it wasn't flimsy.
