I've been using this camcorder for about 2 months now and I'm still learning some features. Overall it's great and I recommend it. I didn't have the battery life issues that some reviewers have, and the camcorder captured great footage of the December 2010 total lunar eclipse with great detail on the moon at maximum zoom - so even in low light no problem. It took me quite a while to get used to the touchscreen system, but I like it - it's very easy to use and intuitive. I can do it). First, the software that comes with it is completely useless. I have an XP machine and am limited to this software on this machine for now, but when I tried using my wife's Win 7 machine with the built-in Windows software, it worked much better. My second criticism relates to the camcorder itself - I think it would be much better if it had a wider angle at maximum zoom out. I'm used to this with my camera and I often feel like I'm not getting as much of a scene as I would like. Especially when I was filming my daughter's band concert last week, the view was a bit narrower than I would have liked. This camcorder feels and looks very well made - which I think is to be expected from a Canon product. an experience. This is a huge improvement over my old Sony High-8 digital camcorder in many ways. With the 32G card I bought it has a recording capacity of over 4 hours which is enough for any vacation I can think of. If you're okay with the software and scaling issues mentioned, I think you'll be pretty happy with this camcorder.
