I've been pretty happy with Canon cameras for years but after my last one ended prematurely by river swimming I decided to finally give Nikon a try. Not only did Nikon not work for a full month, I found it was missing some basic features I wouldn't even ask about, like this camera's inability to distinguish between horizontal and vertical photos, which has been the standard ability of a digital camera since many years. Turning it on and off is unusually slow, and it often took more than a button press for the camera to respond. While the camera actually takes a picture pretty quickly when you press the shutter button, there's not much to say about the quality of the shots. I don't mind a non-removable battery, although I have some concerns that the built-in battery will still work well after a few years of use. Unfortunately I will never be able to answer this specific question. At least with the new camera, the battery life was quite acceptable. After just a couple of weeks of moderate use, the lens cap stopped retracting or closing fully, which is problematic for a number of reasons. Overall verdict: don't buy. My first Nikon was short lived and will be my last.
