It protects me from the rain and that's where my expectations of an umbrella begin and end. I unexpectedly tested it with fire during a downpour and came out much drier than without an umbrella. Just keep in mind that this is not a particularly large umbrella so there will only be one person under it and it won't do wonders for you in a hurricane or even a real heavy rainstorm. It's also a little wobbly. A nice strong gust of wind shook it for me and I don't want it behaving under anything serious. But so that a travel umbrella fits in your luggage? does the job
