Review on Plano 1109 00 Protector Ultra Compact by Larry Gaines

A good case for an amateur shooter; some small quality issues

I bought this bow case for my Genesis Original and it fits me very well. The case is pretty durable; The molded plastic frame is perfect for my storage and travel needs for drop and bump protection, but if I were to drop it out of a building I'd probably get something better. It has a decent foam pad of good thickness. The nylon velcro straps to hold the bow in place are very strong with a very long velcro area; I'm not worried about the velcro not holding even if the case breaks. Fitting these straps was very easy, but good warning, some of the plastic retainers you have to screw in weren't drilled properly and hurt to screw in. There are two other pieces for the arrows to snap onto and they're good solid pieces in their own right, but you have to install them by inserting them into the grooves on the body (you'll see what I mean when you get it get) and while one is easy, the other was really annoyingly difficult to enforce. This is not a high precision product. The included visual instructions were pretty lame. Here's something you need to know that the instructions don't tell you: There are five separate rows of five small pieces with screw holes drilled. You attach your Velcro to these towers with the included screws. But you only need THREE rows to attach the straps and there are only TWO holes in each strap. This way you choose where to attach the straps based on what works best for your bow. Please. All in all it's perfect for me and my beginner amateur archery in no way warrants anything more extensive than that. I'm a die-hard curmudgeon and really wanted to spend less than $50 - yes I know, but the bow itself was a gift – but below this price you pay for a canvas bag with a handle. If you need to save that much $15, you should just put your bow in a canvas bag. But I digress. If your bow costs more than $400, chances are you'll be turning your back on it. However, this case will serve archers well.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Unbelievable price
