I don't think brand is the problem. I used to use plain Durabasics filters in my Honeywell humidifiers and thought they were just as effective as Honeywell filters. But these "premium" filters (with an additional blue filter on the outside to keep dirt out) reduce the effectiveness of my humidifier to almost zero. A low (i.e. quiet) fan speed was all that was needed to get the humidity into the mid 50's. If these "premium" filters run all day at medium or high level (whichever is louder), the humidity does not exceed 40%. That's not just a number, it's the difference between comfortable humidity and no. The water tank sinks much more slowly than before - less evaporation, less moisture. I'm throwing away what's left and going back to basics.
