I have just used this on a project and found it an attractive contrast to the maple. I left the ends sticking out a bit to round them off for aesthetic reasons, but you can trim them flush if you like. They fit snugly into the hole left by the Trufit drill designed for use with this product. As for their strength and durability, I can't comment, but having used them in a toolbox that gets a lot of use, I'd expect to learn something sooner rather than later. Overall they are lighter than traditional dowels and the contrasting colors are attractive. The mallet didn't quite do the job of hammering them in and I knew the hammer would damage them so I used a jackhammer which worked fine. I'll update the review if they don't work.
