I wanted to give this 5 stars and would just order the little purple jacket for my pup. However, I ordered a second one for my other medium sized red dog for my adult dog and wasn't impressed. I bought these for miniature dachshunds and was looking for an easier solution for winter potty breaks. I was tired of going to the floor and putting on a harness, then a coat, and then trying to thread the harness through the opening of the coat. This coat style was the perfect solution for me. They have no sleeves just holes because anything that has sleeves just won't work with their short legs and they are barrel shaped and long so it's difficult to find the right combo for this coat to fit well for their chest and length . I wanted something that was easy to put on and didn't suffer because they are so short. They are easy to put on and attach. The ability to tighten the neck is a great feature as it helps prevent snow on the neck which is again a short canine problem. My issue is that the small coat came with a good sized belt compared to the coat, but the medium coat came with smaller belts than the small. It sounds like you need a bigger belt, or at least the same size but not smaller. A small coat is fine though, a medium one probably won't stand a good pull on the harness. Overall I'm still very happy and satisfied so far and would buy it again for the price.
