When you write to an NTFS formatted storage device, it will literally write to your storage limit as a single file for hours. You can record 2-hour or more movies and programs from a cable box in one file. To summarize the advantages and one disadvantage: 1. It can record long videos in one file if your storage device is formatted in NTFS.2. It can record from cable TV or Blu-ray player.3. The downside is the lack of a pass-through feature. If the device is switched off, the video will not be transmitted to your TV. I think the HDMI input on the Muxlab device was frayed and sporadic due to too much plugging and unplugging, so I just leave that input on and off all the time and see if it works better.
