Review on MOUNTDOG Backdrop Background Chromakey Photography by Bobby Plymell

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Exceeded expectations

For a cheap background this kit worked as expected. The stands aren't as strong as I would like for an everyday studio setup, but I don't need them either. The background stick sags a bit when extended and the tripod stands are very light. Which in my case is a good feature. They are compact and easy to store and transport. I had a little problem cutting a roll on one of the backs where it widened and didn't fit the other section. I used a wrench to smooth out the cut and then they fitted together. For this reason I'm reducing my rating a bit. As with any muslin backdrop, there will be folds and creases. This helped wet the muslin and put it in the dryer for a while. I also let it hang for a day before using it. If you don't want that, you'll have to switch to canvas or seamless paper. I used white muslin for product photos and for portrait photos to experiment with flash settings. If you want a completely white background, use a second off-camera light source to overexpose the background. For product photos, the backlight also improved the overall image quality. I had to use an image editor to remove some wrinkles and shadows I didn't want by adjusting the lighting curves. With no light source in the background, I got a gray background, which is to be expected. Overall, it suits my needs and budget. I will probably never use green muslin but I plan to work with black fabric for some portraits in the near future.
