I really thought this might cause serious problems or crash the functionality, but I've been very happy with it so far. The clamp on the stick is probably the weakest link in the whole thing, and it does a great job of keeping the camera in the right position and upright, even when the monitor base it sits on is regularly shaken by things placed on it meet my desk. The first thing that bothered me when I checked it out online was whether you can really trust it with an expensive camera, so I was a bit nervous when I first set up my Canon Rebel, but my doubts have since gone away. It is very flexible and durable. I was able to add additional lighting and accessories to the camera after installation without having to adjust the mount. I would feel safe using heavier lenses if needed. The only real downside is that it can be a little tricky to position in tight spaces, but overall the design is great and works surprisingly well. I am very happy with this mount.
