I am happy with this purchase but there are a few things that stop me from giving it 5 stars. Pros: 1) It's beautiful - a balanced and attractive combination of patterns and colors. 2) This is actually a mixed fabric quilt, not just printed on one piece of fabric. 3) It's big and covers my high pillow mattress well. 4) It didn't shrink in the wash. Cons: 1) As other reviewers have reported, the quilt and pads give off a "fancy" chemical smell and the fabric felt quite stiff. Had to be washed before use. A slight residual smell, even after washing, is insignificant and does not bother for long. 2) Also, as other reviewers have said, it disappears. I washed very gently in cold water but the colors have faded a bit. In fairness that's not a big issue for me - I even prefer a slightly faded "patina" - it looks really vintage. It doesn't look too washed out and the fabric will soften after washing. Time will tell how much, if any, further fading will occur, but as it stands I'm still happy with it. UPDATE: After about six months and several washes, I had to dispose of this bedspread - it also faded. a lot for my taste.
