Creates unpredictable curls that don't hold

This curling iron creates unpredictable curls and then they don't hold. I have thick but thin hair that almost reaches my shoulders. I've used a 1.25 inch gold plated Hot Tools iron for years. Lately, my hair has become STILL more frizz-resistant than in the past. So I thought I might try a smaller diameter cylinder. same brand and style but changed to this tourmaline coated model. So I'm going to return it and order the Gold Plated Hot Tools 1 and see if that helps. This curling iron is good except for the issue I wrote about above and it doesn't burn hair or smell even at max intensity Might work on others.Update: I have a new gold plated 1" straightener from Hot Got tools and yes it worked way better for my hair than this. Made curls that would go in the direction (down or inside out) I intended and they last longer. PS - and yes, I tried the hottest setting, using small sections of hair and holding curls for six seconds each, which is the number I've seen in online videos of how long to hold for permanent hair.
