Your personal 2.1 speaker system

In the wide range of headphones dominated by the world famous Beats and Bose headphones, there is a place for these headphones that few people have ever heard of have and even fewer people think something of it ? Yes of course. I've been wearing these headphones for about a week and my overall thoughts are: - Good! :) + Epic bass response + Great overall sound + Stylish looks + Interchangeable parts + Impressive sound isolation -- Cons :( -- Noticeable hiss from cable and headband -- Uncomfortable for prolonged listening -- Weird :/ Intermittent lag when music resumes. , for details: -- Good! :) These headphones were recommended to me by a friend who loves dubstep music. A friend of his (who also listens to dubstep) has a pair of headphones, so he chose them as his dream headphones for his DJ setup. Interestingly, he was using a pair of Beats headphones that had one speaker completely damaged and didn't sound very impressive. I can't speak of great experience with other headphones of this type, but I had the opportunity to compare them with Kohl. Yes, it sounds strange, but Kohl's is a surprisingly good place to try them. I've been to two Kohl's and two related Best Buy's. Best Buy had them on display, but only Kohl's had set them up so you could plug in your own iPod and listen to your favorite jams on these headphones. Kohl had also displayed $150 Monsters and $200-$250 Beats, but neither Beats display worked and at least one of the Monsters had a broken wire. So at Kohl's I was able to hear the music of Lindsey Stirling, The Piano Guys, Imagine Dragons and a bit of Beethoven and Souza in these impressive headphones. From these test runs and my friend's recommendation, I chose this one and have never regretted it. The bass in these headphones is definitely a plus for me. As I listen to this, I feel like I took Batman's advice and "turned on those subwoofers" on an epic surround sound system I don't have. Of course it's not as dominant as the bass in a dubstep car, but I find it pleasantly resonant. From Lindsey Stirling to rock, the Frozen soundtrack and even classical music, the level of bass offers an immersive experience that I haven't found anywhere else. I doubt that such economical headphones can claim such excellent bass. And of course the rest of the spectrum sounds great too. While I'm not a music lover, I wouldn't change the sound of these headphones. Closely related to the sound are the "SonicSoft" ear cushions, which effectively isolate the sound without any active noise cancellation that I'm aware of. So when you're listening to your tunes on it, a slap on the shoulder or a very loud shout are the only ways people can get your attention. Likewise, very little of your music slips through the cushions. I was never able to hear more than a whisper of someone else's music when they heard it, even when I put my ear right up to the "sound machine". Unfortunately, this has negative effects, which I will address later in the review. The rest of the good stuff is small compared to the rest, but it's worth noting that these headphones have a very clean, eye-catching design, and a design that easily allows for a "remix," SOL's term for replacing a headband or cable with one different color. The day after I received these headphones, it saved my life when my knee got caught on the cable while getting up from my knee. With the typical headphone design I could easily have broken them completely, but with the interchangeable design the cable was simply disconnected from the sound engines and after I reconnected them I was back in business. Design flaws of this product, mainly due to the design. The sound mechanisms can't be pivoted like most headphones to fit your ears more comfortably. This is of particular concern during long listening sessions as they put unnecessary strain on the headphones. ears of the listener. Luckily for you, my ears stick out a bit more than most people, so most other people will probably be less uncomfortable with them. When listening, there is a noticeable presence on the headband and cable. Although I haven't tried it myself, I have clear evidence that running or other similar physical activities result in annoying cable noise. Runners, you can look elsewhere. For those of you who don't move much while listening, this scam is unlikely to affect you. -- The quirky: / These headphones come with a 3-button remote to control your MP3 player. When used with my iPod touch (4th generation), the features are about as responsive as my Apple headphones: no noticeable lag when adjusting the volume, 1-2 second lag when pausing or resuming music. I actually think these SOL republics could be a bit faster when playing and pausing. Usually. Unfortunately, in some cases there was a delay of about 5 seconds when resuming playback. One day when it was waiting about 10 seconds, I woke up my iPod and it quickly continued playing. In summary, these headphones are a great choice for dubstep fans or those who enjoy deep, resonant bass when listening to music. However, before you buy them, I would recommend reading a few online reviews like Gizmodo that compare these tracks to Tracks HD and Tracks Ultra. Unfortunately, they are more expensive but may suit your listening style better. Also, I'd love to see if your local Kolya has a pair you could try. Headphones are one of those things that you really want to try before you buy. I certainly wouldn't consider Kohl's a better place to buy them than Revain, but it's certainly a good place to try them out with your own music. The headphone market is certainly huge and confusing, but unless you wear headphones all day or are a hardcore audiophile, you can't go wrong with these. UPDATE 6/30/2014 Two days ago I wore these headphones while walking for 20-30 minutes in light wind. The cord "pops" every time you take a step, but it's not too noticeable unless it's on the quiet side of the music or you're listening to music on the quiet side. This effect increases dramatically with running, so if you need running headphones I would definitely look elsewhere. Also, there was quite a bit of wind noise, even though the wind was fairly light. If you plan on using your headphones outdoors a lot, you might want to invest in higher-end headphones that focus a bit more on noise-cancelling, depending on how much outside noise bothers you.
