UPDATED - bad right lever and different from the old Ultegra

UPDATE - not even 6 months use and MAYBE 700 miles and the right hand shifter refuses to shift through all gears. did a derailleur adjustment in LBS and within an hour the derailleur was moody again. mine is paired with a GRX 812 rear derailleur and a 1x11 GRX 40t crankset. It's VERY disappointing that the cost was over $500 just between the rear D and the derailleurs and the derailleur is worse than the crappy low end Claris group. I DO NOT ACCEPT RX. These are my second Ultegra switches, were the 6800s first and they are amazing. The handles are more ergonomic and tidier, they click in very easily but are taller than the photos. They're not very comfortable to ride on the drop - the body is a lot stiffer, but they will do. This kit includes the body, shift and brake cables, and all the eyelets and stops you could want for a 2x11 drivetrain. I only needed the brakes and a rear D-cable for a 1x setup, but I was glad I didn't have to spend more than $$$ on it. Although the brakes are better after mechanical adjustment, they still push farther than any other derailleur I've used. More on that below. They still perform the same as the old Ultegras in terms of crisp shifts, but there are times I get ghost shifts to the next gear up, which might have more to do with chain/RD. In fact, my RD has a clutch mechanism that can prevent this from happening when it's on. Front braking feels soft and rear is better, but the brake housing bangs into the frame (maybe it needs a compression-free housing, as I mentioned). The 'Mech warned me that if I pushed the levers, they would move back much further. On my first trip they do just that - awful. With the stripe tape added, this just won't work in the long run and I'm returning it to the bellows to correct all of the above. Will update to see if they hold up over time.

Pros
  • All right!
Cons
  • Expensive
