I have tested it both at room temperature and in hot water. In hot water, the paper broke in two in about 20 seconds but did not dissolve. You could still see the whole paper for up to 2 minutes. I ran a few tests and if I spilled the bowl or stirred the water with a spoon, the paper tore instantly and then quickly dissolved without leaving any noticeable residue. I used this to illustrate the child ministry of Jesus taking away our sins. I asked the children to write "sin” or a specific sin on paper. Then they lowered it into the water, stirred it and at the same time read a simple prayer. I was pleased with the outcome of the paper disappearing, although at first I expected it to go away on its own.
