I work from home several days a week and also have to attend conference calls daily. Sometimes that's really many hours of phone calls. In such a situation, traditional wired communication becomes much more convenient than a smartphone. So I definitely needed a landline at home, but I ended up paying the service provider a few extra bucks for their services. Thanks to the combination of Google Voice + OBihai, we never have to pay a dime to use a landline phone at home. I did a lot of research on the internet on how to give up my landline and found that this is the way to go. I bought the OBi200 for less than $50, which I think is good for the average user who only needs a landline. If you plan to get an extra phone line or use a second line as a fax line then the OBi202 is a good choice at an additional cost. Setting up an Obihai is very easy and can be completed in minutes. You must have a Google Voice account (if not, you can sign in with your Gmail account). You will also need to register an Obihai account and register your device, and the step-by-step wizard will integrate your Google Voice account into your Obihai device. After completing the setup, you can make calls for free. You can download the ObiOn app (available for iOS and Android) on your smartphone and make and receive calls through the Obihai endpoint. Your name after the beep.
