Review on ๐Ÿ“ท Fujifilm FinePix F600EXR 16 MP Digital Camera: Enhanced Performance, CMOS Sensor, 15x Optical Zoom (Black) by Tammy Dellman

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Another F10/20/30 owner disappointed!

I won't be as blunt as the "EZ" reviewer, but as the current owner of a beloved F30, I too feel blown away by the F600. It's beautifully designed, feels good, can take some great shots, but has serious drawbacks both as a still camera and as a home-made camcorder. It came out quickly after about 4 uses. I wasn't surprised because in my second (thanks to the good work of 17th St Photo via Revain) the tube actually wobbled in place when extended to full length. However, I really wanted another good Fuji F-series camera, so I eagerly started testing it. CONS: Images can be very good but are inconsistent in focus and color which is a problem. Indoor video focus is very poor, even in decent light (10am on a bright but overcast day). I haven't tried EXR mode too many times, but when I did I couldn't see any obvious improvements. I was never sure that this lens barrel wouldn't break at any moment. I truly believe that all of these "Lens Error" reviews of almost every long zoom compact from the manufacturer are about putting high zoom extension rings on bodies that are too thin. I'd argue for the rest, but these days everything on a $289 camera was so important it was too much for me. Not as good as the F600 out of 600 at best, but much better built and generally very good as a long zoom compact, I recommend the Canon Sx230. Using automatic mode is usually fine, but if you learn automatic mode and apply what you know to program mode, you can get really good photos. And video is decent indoors, very good outdoors (digital zooming out up to 72x is a lot of fun!) and the $199 Sx230 is a steal!
