I am a renowned professional specializing in technical and image evaluations. If you're reading this review, you already know that the Sony A7R IV is a fantastic machine. However, I am switching from the ergonomically superior Canon to Sony. I was almost persuaded to switch, but only one thing kept me going: the convenience of a camera body and room for a lonely, curled pinky. Read on for a detailed comparison of the recently released Meike MK-A9 IIG and Wepoto GP-A74/A92: (see photo) BUILD QUALITY AND WEIGHT: At first glance, these two beautiful grips appear almost identical. Weike weighs 3.6 ounces while Wepote is slightly heavier at 3.9 ounces. A closer look reveals differences. Wepoto's grip area is 3/32" deeper than Meike's. This extra depth can be an advantage if you have really big hands. I prefer a less deep Meike as there is enough room for the pinky. Similarly the flat long side of the wepoto also goes 3/32" lower. BALANCE AND COMFORT / WEPOTO: Both arrived on the same day. I read good reviews about wepoto on a well-known picture forum and tried it first. I was hoping that the grip would restore the balance and comfort I need given the issues with the small body and hard edges of the Sony A7R IV compared to Canon and Nikon On other occasions when I held the handle, the extra weight on the side of the handle made it feel a bit unbalanced - the side is heavy BALANCE AND COMFORT / MEIKE: The next time I used the Meike unscrewed, my hand immediately felt better. The right side is still a little heavier, which is natural given there's more metal in the grip area. But compared to Wepoto, the balance feels better. Almost imperceptible and invisible while my left hand is under the lens, but for me the Meike is better balanced. BUILD QUALITY / BATTERY DOOR AND HEAD KEY INCLUDED: Wepoto has two very small magnets to hold the hex key and keep it in place. But the inside of Meike is absolutely magnetic. Meike's Allen key grips securely and doesn't give way! In addition, the Meike key is longer and 2 grams heavier. Maybe this tiny difference is one of the reasons for the overall improvement? ANGLE DESIGN / MEIKE VS WEPOTO: Look at the bottom left corner of each handle in my photo. You'll see that Meike's corners are a bit more rounded. This makes it more comfortable in the corner in contact with the palm and along the entire left edge. The right corner of each of them is equally comfortable for the palm. Thanks to the handle, the Sony A7R IV (or A9) actually feels better in the hand. BATTERY DOOR: DOES IT NEED TO MOVE THE HANDLES DOWN? With Wepoto or Meike, I move the Sony battery flap without hesitation. capture. With proper care, it can be removed and reattached in seconds. I'm sure the seal on the grip is as good as the one on the camera body. If you're still worried, just slide some thick foam into the gap between the handle door and the battery at the top. Speaking of fear, no grip scratches the camera body. Tighten it down and it's a secure and confident fit, no less secure than full battery grips. CONCLUSION: I was a Nikon fan for many years before becoming a Canon photographer and have now decided to switch to Sony. I've been treated well by both companies, but now I'm very happy with Sony's commitment to the professional market. Not only are Sony lenses typically smaller and lighter, you can easily see in the 61MP file that they're sharper too. This is too important a fact to ignore. So why can't Sony's best camera body be as comfortable as Canon and Nikon's? It doesn't bother me anymore. These grips make a huge difference and I'm willing to sacrifice less than 120 grams of extra weight for a camera that finally feels really good! Any handle is a good choice. For me Meike takes it to the next level with small differences and is worth every modest additional cost. I hope this long review has been of some help. Any handle is a good choice. ENJOY SHOOTING!
