Review on Rokinon IO14AF-N 14mm F2.8 Full Frame Auto Focus Wide Angle Weatherproof Lens for Nikon - Enhanced SEO by Beth Dellman

Very good value for money

I love ultra wide photography and have only ever had a 180 degree fisheye for my D750. I could use 12mm equivalents on my D7100, but this is a much better direct solution. Image quality is good wide open (unless the sun is in the frame), better at f4-5.6 and great at f8. The colors look great (again as long as there is no sun in the picture) and the contrast is very good. The micro contrast isn't as good as my Zeiss 12mm (for my Fujifilm crop sensor cameras), but it's comparable (and even better) to my Sigma 8-16mm (for my Nikon crop sensor). As I said, the problem is with bright light. This lens is bad with the sun in the frame. Many flashes wash everything away. It can be used when shooting raw and removing glare, but you will always have problems. Amazing build and very good autofocus (focal length is pretty forgiving with great depth of field). For the price, it is not surprising that there are problems with glare. A more advanced design and superior coverage will solve those glare issues, but I would have preferred this at half the price. If you want to save even more, you can also look at MF 14mm lenses (manually focusing the ultra wide lens is not a big problem. Highly recommended for photographers looking for a straight ultra wide lens that can work in the sun.

Pros
  • All weather aluminum construction
Cons
  • Hard to say
