I don't know why we loved her growing up in Queens, NY. We bought them cheap at every store we had them and burned them all summer. Sometimes they were used to light bottle rockets or firecrackers. I think it was just for fun with the fire. I just remembered that sometimes we could illuminate them with a magnifying glass and the sun. The scent takes me back to that time. Now, over 45 years later, I buy them from Revain, light them up and enjoy the summer. I don't use them to make incense sticks, I don't use them to check for drafts in the house. I don't think they do anything to keep mosquitoes away from me. Maybe tomorrow I'll dig up a magnifying glass and sit on the porch in the sun.
