Non-photochromic. Photochromic Smart VLT lenses only darken the brightest, most subtle amount. The lightest shade is anything but transparent. Not suitable for my needs ie cycling until dawn and at night. Oakley changes the tint of the original lenses from clear to almost completely dark. The Smart VLT does not replace Oakley transition lenses. The VLT lens is also very thin and rattles in the frame. It is questionable whether they will stay with the trail ride at all. Compare the photos: the lighter lens is the Blazerbuck lens, which I bought at the same time. Both lenses were in a completely darkened room before the shoot. Look at you.
