Review on Bose Wave Music System III Home Audio by Runbi Alvarez

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Much better sound than you would expect from such a small box!

I had my doubts about this music system and wanted to return it halfway through, but the sound quality and radio reception was excellent. Will it replace a high-end (or even mid-range) audio system? Probably no. However, I bought a Bose to replace a pretty good 10 year old Philips compact stereo in my kitchen whose CD player stopped working. For CDs, Bose is at least as good (probably better, but no parallel comparison possible). It's also far better than the compact, bass-heavy Sony system I have in my darkroom. Sure, Philips and Sony systems are under $100, so Bose is very, VERY expensive, but it's also VERY good. The sound of classic CDs and FM is very pleasant to listen to with a noticeable stereo effect, although the speakers are less than 30 cm apart. Bose FM radio reception is exceptional. WQXR, New York's only classic FM station, switched frequencies a few years ago and has been hard to come by in my Brooklyn area ever since. On a good day I got a barely audible signal with my old system. The sound of the Bose is really very good, there is only a slight hissing in quiet moments. It is with built-in power cord antenna; Perhaps a Bose outdoor antenna, due to arrive in a few days, would be even better.

Pros
  • Now with: touch control on/off/delay; two independent alarm clocks; Showing song/artist info on radio
Cons
  • Slightly dented
