Review on πŸ—‚οΈ Stud Finder Wall Scanner - 5 in 1 Electronic Stud Sensor with LCD Display - Locate Wood, AC Wires, Metal Studs, Joists - Orange BLACK by Greg Simms

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Don't trust a metal detector.

Not worth it. Save yourself a ton of headaches and either spend a few extra bucks to buy a well-known brand from the hardware store, or just use an awl. The good thing is that if you run it back and forth along the wall 4 or 5 times, you'll know with a pretty high degree of certainty where the centerline of the spike is. It locates the centerline fairly accurately and gives that reading fairly consistently. Also, the current sensor turned out to be very sensitive (maybe too much, but I'd rather play it safe if you can electrocute yourself). sure the reading is correct. This thing obviously has poor accuracy. And while it can tell you the midline pretty well, it varies wildly in relation to the edges of the pimple. Ugly: The metal sensor is also unreliable. I calibrated the open metal sensor and after that it only recognized the drywall screws as per the manual. This did NOT show that the "bolt" I found was actually my plumbing. I ran it up and down and it hesitated as it was described to mount drywall screws. Luckily, due to problems with the bolts and the presence of an old house with lead pipes, I didn't pierce the pipe. But I hit it when I made a test hole with the smallest drill bit. It could have ended horribly and cost me thousands. Not worth the $10 I saved on a quality brand from a home store.
