Small Rugged Module

They work as advertised. At 12 V, the modules consume 90 mA. That's 1 watt. At 11.5V the modules draw 72mA and at 12V they draw 105mA. The solder was adequate and no major problems were observed. The pair of resistors were slightly offset, but within the functional range. The module's input power is passed through the MB6S rectifier chip, which allows you to apply current polarity in any configuration without worrying about damage. Technically they can also operate on 17-18VAC, but it is most likely desirable to limit the IC's output to reduce flicker. The LEDs are arranged in 8 parallel groups of 3 chips. This is good because it spreads the surge across multiple chips and allows the module to keep working even if one chip fails. It is worth noting that the module is heated. No need to worry at 12 volts and mine reached 130°F (54°C) in 30 minutes. However, a lead-acid battery charging system (e.g. in a van or car) can be operated at 14.5 V. At this voltage, 176 mA was measured, which corresponds to 2.5 watts. This means they are significantly brighter and still within the operating range of all components on the board. However, 2.5 watts of waste heat on a module of this size can become a problem in the long run, especially in small cases with restricted airflow. I expected the components on the board to disintegrate and fall off before the fire could happen, but the board would also start cracking. This should cause the fuse to blow before it ignites. Got to. In future versions this problem could be avoided by driving 12 groups of 2 LEDs with a PWM control chip. They are more or less great when used according to their specs. Limit the runtime if these specifications are exceeded. They're inexpensive and you get what you pay for, but there's no protection on the boards. Check them out after walking for a while.
