Dell's E172FP 17-inch flat-panel LCD monitor meets market standards for clarity, usability and color depth. Tool so you can edit the RGB values according to your personal preferences. Full plug and play support is a great tool, and while Dell includes a driver installation CD, it's not really necessary. The monitor supports resolutions up to 1280 x 1024 pixels and maintains its natural form with color tones and clarity. I have a laptop and I do graphic design. This monitor was a real find and a great investment; Whenever I create images, I do it on a Dell monitor. Its color reproduction is as close to "real life" as any other monitor I have ever worked with. The sleek, slim LCD display saves space, and the user interface is simple and easy to use. However, this monitor has a design flaw. I've used other monitors with this laptop in the past and haven't encountered this issue yet. The EF172FP supplies AC power through the monitor cable. I still don't understand how this can happen, but even after Dell replaced my first EF172FP (due to the same issue), the new model does the same thing. This is particularly noticeable in the sound: First, I was made aware of the problem by a pronounced "humming" in my speakers. I found that this 60Hz hum was related to connecting the monitor to my computer and to my great surprise the AC bounced back to my motherboard! I checked and it's not a critical issue (it won't damage your computer in the long run), but it's annoying if you use your computer for audio. A hum is heard when your computer is connected to a powered speaker system. Power supply aside, the EF172FP is a great purchase and a smart investment. Service and support from Dell, although outsourced, is still very friendly and understanding. The warranty on the monitor is very extensive and the device itself will not disappoint. Powerful visual technology that stays compact; recommended! **EDIT: 6 years after purchase this monitor still works great!
