Honest traveler review

Full Disclosure - I purchased this myself and receive no compensation from Ultra Ankle for this review. I'm not a marketer, just a teacher who loves to wander. I want to share my honest thoughts about High-5 and love this company a little bit as I think they make an amazing product. I have full garbage ankles. I damaged them badly in my late teens and then again and again and now it's too easy to roll them when I'm on rough ground. It's a real shame as I'm fortunate to live near the White Mountains in New Hampshire and I love to hike. For years I would have loved every minute of climbing these mountains and the time I spent at the top, and then hated every second of the descent. Fear of getting hurt and then limping down the mountain, which happened more than once. I've tried high-top boots, stability supports, and ankle wraps, but nothing has worked. I saw them and although they were expensive I decided to try them. When I first tried them on I found them a little uncomfortable and my shoes stuck out so much it looked like I had clown paws. I almost got her back! But I read the instructions and saw that they need a break-in period to get them up to the ankles. So I wore them around the house, around the neighborhood, and on the treadmill for several days. In fact, it didn't take long for them to get very comfortable and I could easily forget they were there. Check! Now it's time for the real test. I took the middle climb of Mount Stinson and got ready. Those braces, a pair of comfortable boots, a pair of good kicks for stability, and I was ready to go. Almost immediately, I noticed that the High-5 significantly improved the ankle wraps I had previously tried in terms of my mobility on the way up. I could actually forget they were there. I climbed well, spent some time at the top and then made my way down. I was about a third of the way down a fairly steep trail with lots of rocks and roots when I realized that 1 - I wasn't scared and 2 - I really liked it! These orthotics didn't allow my ankles to rotate and while I could probably still get injured from a bad fall or something, I felt MUCH more confident and a lot more confident. I went down the mountain without pain and now I'm completely changed. They are more expensive than bandages but I truly believe they are worth every penny and I am very glad I tried them. ! You just have to make sure you take the time to BREAK THEM or you'll end up hating them. Wear them for a few days and let them adapt to you. Once they do, they become comfortable armor for your ankles. I've even shed the "clown shoe" feeling towards them. Heck they can be neon and shiny and I'll still love them. These braces have brought hiking back to me! :-)
