In 1977 I bought my first house and immediately went to the local store and bought two Rubbermaid wastepaper baskets, one for the kitchen and one for the basement. I got married, moved and they followed me into my current kitchen and workshop over the years. The one in the workshop was more abused and cracked a few years ago. The kitchen trash can is kept under the sink and taken out of the house two or more times a day. Finally, 37 years later (!), the top edge started to crack from being grabbed by the rim many times a day. Needless to say, I wanted a different Rubbermaid. I couldn't find the right size in town but it was perfect. It's exactly the same height and width as the old one, so it fits perfectly under the sink. It even appears to be more durable than the original and likely costs about the same, meaning it's practically free at $1977. The color is a little darker than in the photo, more of a grey-brown. Looks beautiful. What more could you want from a regular trash can?
